Volunteering Opportunities

Looking for a volunteering placement?

Would you like to make a positive difference to your community?

Volunteering can provide a number of benefits such as an opportunity to build new skills, gain experience or just to try out something new.  It brings people together and creates a sense of achievement and wellbeing.  Volunteering comes in many shapes and forms and doesn’t always require a long-term commitment.  Here at the BIVC, we offer many volunteering opportunities, ranging from just a few hours a year to more frequent volunteering support.  We are always happy to benefit from however much time you feel you can give and in return, we are pleased to provide workplace references.

Our Trustees participate in BIVC meetings (4-5 per year) and help support the office and seek funding, which is critical to keep BIVC running day-to-day.

This role involves working closely with the office Administrator to oversee bookkeeping and to produce an annual report for the AGM.

Our clients needs are varied and complex.  We would be truly grateful for the professional advice of a Solicitor, who could perhaps give a morning of their time once a week or once a month, to provide free advice for our clients.

BIVC Volunteer Advisers

We are looking for volunteers who would like to work as part of our small, friendly office team based in Berinsfield. Our volunteers help clients who come into the centre seeking support or information on a wide variety of subjects, such as benefits applications, debt advice, employment rights information and more.  A caring nature is critical, as well as a professional approach to helping people. No experience needed as training will be provided.  We offer lots of support in the role, as well as employment screening e.g. DBS checks.

Events Support

There are a range of volunteering opportunities to help support our calendar of events.  In particular, we are looking for stallholders, entertainment, grant finding, administrative/organisational support and practical help on the day of the events. However, we would be happy to hear from anyone who feels they have something to offer, from sharing your ideas and suggestions to just one or two hours of your time – your help will be greatly appreciated.

Village Voice

BIVC are always looking for contributors and advertisers for the Village Voice publication.  We also need people to help with distribution around the village.

General Cleaner

The busy BIVC offices are in need of a regular attention.  We would love to hear from someone who feels able to give a little of their time weekly or fortnightly to keep our offices clean & tidy.

It is important for us to offer a service that people feel they want to access.  Having an inviting entrance will certainly help us achieve that, so we would like to hear from anyone in the green-fingered community who can help spruce things up in our front garden.

BIVC would value a monthly visit from an electrician who can carry out all-important PAT testing to ensure our electrical equipment meets safety standards.

Due to the sensitive nature of our work, BIVC reserves the right to refuse volunteering or work placement applicants, or to carry out employment screening e.g. DBS checks, to help protect the safety and confidentiality of our clients.  These checks are never carried out without our applicants prior permission.

BIVC also appreciate donations. Financial contributions, non-electrical homeware, clothing, bedding and unwanted gifts are all very welcome.
